The Secretary


Georgina Harrisson is the Secretary of the NSW Department of Education.
Georgina joined the Department in April 2017, previously holding the roles of Deputy Secretary Educational Services and Group Deputy Secretary School Improvement and Educational reform, before commencing as Secretary in 2021.
Georgina has extensive experience in public policy in Australia and the UK, in both central and line agencies.
Prior to the Department of Education, Georgina held a range of senior management positions within the NSW Government including the NSW Department of Family and Community Services (2014 – 2017) and the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet (2012 - 2014), the Australian Government and the UK Government.
Georgina's experience has given her great cause for optimism about the power of public service to positively influence people’s lives – the purpose that drives her work.
Georgina is on the Board of TAFE NSW and the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Georgina holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the University of Birmingham.
