Booking assignments over 3 hours

For assignments over 3 hours in length, schools must first get funding approval from the Multicultural Education Team.

To get approval, schools should download and then complete a separate departmental Interpreter funding request form (PDF 233 KB) for each request. Attach the completed form/s to an email and send it/them to interpreting@det.nsw.edu.au.

If approved, a Funding approval form will be sent to schools to use when booking the assignment.

Metropolitan Sydney

After approval for funding has been provided, metropolitan schools can book interpreters with the following providers:

Provider Assignments over 3 hours

TIS National

Bookings with TIS National can only be made online.

You must register to use the TIS online booking form. The quickest way to register is to email tispromo@homeaffairs.gov.au and request registration for their online booking system. Your email should contain a signature block including the school name, your position, your phone number and email address. You must also provide the department's client code in the email. The client code can be found in the Interpreting and translation guidelines for schools 2023 (staff only) (PDF 313 KB) or by phoning 7814 3124. TIS National will send you an email with a password activation link. Please click on the activation link. Once you have set up your password you can request your onsite interpreter booking.

When completing the TIS online booking form be sure to add the school name in the site details section in the building name field. Enter the funding approval number in the Invoice reference field.

You should receive a confirmation of your booking within 48 hours of making your booking. If you haven't received confirmation please phone TIS National on 1300 655 820.

If you have any other difficulties using the TIS Online system please phone TIS National on 1300 655 820 and ask for help.

Multicultural NSW

Email the Funding approval form to Multicultural NSW at languageservices@multicultural.nsw.gov.au

You should receive confirmation of your booking within 48 hours of making your booking. If you haven't received confirmation please phone Multicultural NSW on 1300 651 500 to make an enquiry.

Deaf Connect

It is generally not appropriate to book Auslan interpreters for over 3 hours. If you have a special reason why you would need this service please phone (02) 7814 3124 to discuss before booking.

Hunter New England

After approval for funding has been provided, schools in the Hunter area can book interpreters with the following providers if available:

Provider Assignments over 3 hours

Hunter New England Local Health

Email the Funding approval form to Hunter New England Local Health. The email address is on the Funding approval form.

You should receive confirmation of your booking within 48 hours of making your booking. If you haven't received confirmation please phone Hunter New England Local Health on 4924 6285 to make an enquiry.

Deaf Connect

Wollongong

After approval for funding has been provided, schools in the Wollongong area can book interpreters with the following providers:

Provider Assignments over 3 hours

Wollongong City Council

Write the funding approval number (top right hand corner of Funding approval form) in the field 'Specific Requirements' for appointment.

You should receive confirmation of your booking within 48 hours of making your booking. If you haven't received confirmation please phone your service provider to check. The phone numbers for all the providers are on the bottom of the interpreter approval form.

Deaf Connect

It is generally not appropriate to book Auslan interpreters for over 3 hours. If you have a special reason why you would need this service please phone (02) 7814 3124 to discuss before booking.

Regional NSW

Unfortunately there are very few onsite interpreters available in areas outside of Metropolitan Sydney, Hunter New England and the Wollongong area. There is a very limited number available in the following areas: Bathurst - 1 Bengali interpreter; Albury - 1 Croatian, 1 Slovenian and 7 Nepali interpreters. To access these interpreters bookings must be made through TIS National following the instructions above.

Schools should use the telephone interpreter service if onsite interpreters are not available.

Auslan onsite interpreters
