Technology Mandatory – GPS cows

The unit investigates the use of GPS data to improve the management of animal welfare. You do not need to be trained in agriculture to teach this unit of work.

GPS Cows is a unit of work co-designed by the NSW Department of Education and CQUniversity Australia for the Technology Mandatory Syllabus 2017. It incorporates content from the Agriculture and Food Technologies and the Digital Technologies contexts.

The resources for this unit are available from a Moodle site online. Each teacher and student must register with GPScows.com to gain access. The resources are available under the tab GPS Cows for Technology Mandatory NSW - Stage 4 resources.

Teachers will also need to register with ArcGIS and create accounts for their students. This is an online tool to assist in mapping and analysing the data. Register for an ARCGIS account through GPScows.

The program for the unit of work has been developed in NESA's Program Builder software. Once you follow this link you can add the program to your own account. The program can then be modified to meet the needs of your students and school. Once you follow the link, log into Program Builder and click 'Copy to my units'. You can then edit and export the program from there.
