Early Stage 1 activities - Starting school safely
Early Stage 1 students are vulnerable road users. They are still developing the skills, behaviours and attitudes needed to stay safe, while adjusting to new routines for getting to and from school.
Starting school is a major milestone for children and their families. This resource supports a safe and confident transition to school for everyone.
It includes four flexible teaching and learning activities that teachers can adapt to suit their students:
- Lesson 1: Pedestrian safety
- Lesson 2: Pedestrian crossings
- Lesson 3: Passenger safety
- Lesson 4: Safety on wheels
Family involvement is important to reinforce these messages at home and in everyday travel.
Additional guidance is available for principals to support communication with families.
