Booking assignments over 3 hours

For assignments over 3 hours in length, schools must first get funding approval from Equity.

To get approval, schools should submit a departmental Interpreter funding request form (PDF 233 KB) (staff only). You may type details directly into this version then attach it to an email and send it to interpreting@det.nsw.edu.au.

If approved, a Funding approval form will be sent to schools to use when booking the assignment.

Metropolitan Sydney

After approval for funding has been provided, metropolitan schools can book interpreters with the following providers:

TIS National

Bookings with TIS National can only be made online.

You must register to use the TIS online booking form. The quickest way to register is to email tispromo@homeaffairs.gov.au and request registration for their online booking system. Your email should contain a signature block including the school name, your position, your phone number and email address. You must also provide the department's client code in the email. The client code can be found in the Interpreting and translation guidelines for schools (2018) or by phoning 9244 5311. TIS National will send you an email with a password activation link. Please click on the activation link. Once you have set up your password you can request your onsite interpreter booking.

When completing the TIS online booking form be sure to add the school name in the site details section in the building name field. Enter the funding approval number in the Invoice reference field.

You should receive a confirmation of your booking within 48 hours of making your booking. If you haven't received confirmation please phone TIS National on 1300 655 820.

Multicultural NSW

Email the Funding approval form to Multicultural NSW at languageservices@multicultural.nsw.gov.au

You should receive a confirmation of your booking within 48 hours of making your booking. If you haven't received confirmation please phone your service provider to check. The phone numbers for all the providers are on the bottom of the Funding approval form.

Deaf Society

Fax the Funding approval form to the Deaf Society on 02 8212 5836 or email your form to interpreting@deafsociety.com

Hunter New England

After approval for funding has been provided, schools in the Hunter area can book interpreters with the following providers:

Fax or email the Funding approval form to Hunter New England Local Health. The fax number and email address are on the Funding approval form.

Deaf Society

Email the Funding approval form to the Deaf Society at interpreting@deafsociety.com. Your form can also be faxed to the Deaf Society on 02 8212 5836.

Wollongong

After approval for funding has been provided, schools in the Wollongong area can book interpreters with the following providers:

Write the funding approval number (top right hand corner of Funding approval form) in the field 'Specific Requirements' for appointment.

Deaf Society

If using the Deaf Society send the Funding approval form to the Deaf Society via fax on 02 8212 5836 or via email to interpreting@deafsociety.com

Regional NSW

Unfortunately there are very few onsite interpreters available in areas outside of Metropolitan Sydney, Hunter New England and the Wollongong area. Schools requiring interpreters in regional NSW should ascertain the availability of local interpreters and if they are not available they should use the telephone interpreter service.

Auslan onsite interpreters

If you require Auslan for local interpreters or alternate interpreting services through another platform, for example Skype, contact:

Ascertain which onsite interpreters are available in your area and follow the steps required to make a booking.

Deaf Society bookings

Using Internet Explorer as your browser, complete the Interpreter request form (PDF 366 KB) and email your form to interpreting@deafsociety.com or fax your request to the Deaf Society on 02 8212 5836.
