Key inquiry questions

  • What role did country play in the traditional lifestyle of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples?
  • To what extent did colonisation and subsequent dispossession affect Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples?
  • How have government policies restricted the human rights of Indigenous people in Australia?

Overview

Students:

  • explore the intimate relationship that Indigenous people have with Country, both spiritually and economically
  • describe the impact colonisation had on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • examine the impact that government policies have had and continue to have on Indigenous people around the world
  • investigate Aboriginal initiatives to counteract the impact of dispossession and dislocation.
