Exploring the Infrastructure Pathways Program
Our Infrastructure Pathways Program is designed to provide experiences and opportunities for students, Year 12 school leavers and early-years TAFE and university students.
Its aim is to develop the future workforce able to plan, design, build, share and maintain public schools across the state.
Each program is a pathway with a purpose designed to increase awareness of the real opportunities available when you work in government infrastructure by providing real-life experience.
The four pathways are:
- School Infrastructure Work Experience
a 3-day on-site opportunity for Year 10 students that showcases infrastructure as a career, designed to highlight the varied opportunities in the infrastructure sector beyond construction and trade jobs, and explore the many different skills and expertise required to plan, design, build and maintain public schools.
- Executive for a Day
a one day immersive experience designed to identify the decisions required by senior executives responsible for the physical delivery of schools. The day also includes a site visit to see first-hand the outcome of similar decisions made months or years before that led to the creation or expansion of a public school.
- Infrastructure traineeship
a two-year work-based program providing on-the-job-experience in the infrastructure sector within the NSW Department of Education for Year 12 school leavers enrolled in a full-time Certificate IV Project Management Practice through TAFE NSW.
- Infrastructure cadetship
a two-year work-based entry-level program for young people aged under 25 studying a Diploma at TAFE NSW or enrolled in a bachelor's degree at university in qualifications supporting the increasing demand for public schools across the state.

Regional and metro locations
All work placements are close to home or in locations that you can get to easily. Wherever there is a school, there is a School Infrastructure team supporting it.
