Reviewing support

There are many ways that you can build a relationship and talk with your child's school. You can meet with the school formally, talk to teachers in parent-teacher interviews or call or email the school to check-in if you have a question or concern.

Reviewing your child’s personalised learning and support

You and your family will be invited to provide input into the planning for your child’s personalised learning and support, and it should be updated regularly. Most schools do this every school year.

Annual review of specialist support revisions

Starting your child in a particular school setting does not mean that they will have to stay there for their entire education. Every year you will be able to review your child’s placement.

Specialist support provisions for your child will usually be reviewed during Term 2 or Term 3.

You will be involved in this process, as will your child if it is appropriate.

Together, you and the school will consider all aspects of your child's personalised learning and support, including whether their current provisions or placement in a support class is the best option for meeting their needs.

Generally, the meeting will take place between yourself, a member of the school learning and support team, and the school counsellor or psychologist representative.

If needed, the senior psychologist education, the assistant principal learning and support, hearing and vision support or representatives from an external agency may also attend. You can also bring a family member or friend to the meeting.

After the review, any adjustments or updates will be made to the personalised learning and support for your child.

If your child’s needs change significantly at any point during their schooling, a review should be set up as soon as possible - even if your child’s annual review has already happened in that year.
