Welcome to the EFSG 2026

EFSG 2026 is the second release in our Standards Reform program of works and is part of our staged release approach. It builds upon the previous version and provides even more new content and improved usability.

This resource supports all new school infrastructure projects by clearly defining design expectations and spatial requirements.

We have made good progress on updating and simplifying content across all four parts A, B, C and D. Going forward, the reform program will continue to improve the content and make SI's infrastructure standards easier to use.

The Educational Facilities Standards and Guidelines (EFSG) contains design and construction standards, that are required for the design and delivery of new school facilities and upgrades.

It's important to first make sure you are working with the appropriate version of the EFSG for your project. Check which version applies to my situation.

EFSG sets the benchmark for all new built environment works for school facilities in NSW and is separated into the four parts A,B, C and D based on the types of information you seek. All parts are to be read in conjunction with one another. Read sequentially through each part, or choose which type of information relevant to your situation from the four parts below.

The EFSG typically details design and construction standards where they exceed or are in addition to the minimum requirements set out in the applicable regulation. The EFSG does not replace compliance requirements detailed in the current applicable National Construction Code and Australian Standards.
