How can schools use this self-assessment tool?

The self-assessment tool can be completed by schools to assess their current practices in relation to their chosen focus area for Aboriginal HSC attainment (AHA) Guided Support. The tool will assist schools in identifying areas of strength and areas of opportunity and can support the situational analysis and evaluation processes within Implementation Progress Monitoring (IPM).

What is included in the self-assessment tool?

The self-assessment tool provides data capture and reporting for individual schools to analyse areas of strength and areas of opportunity within their chosen focus area. It further allows DELs to see the impact of the Guided Support initiative within the school’s area of focus. The self-assessment tool provides a rubric for each self-assessment under the focus areas of Personalised Learning, Culturally Safe Schools and Authentic Engagement.

Using the Guide AHA Self-assessment

Step 1: Select a focus area from the left-hand sidebar. In the example below, 'Personalised learning' has been selected. Next, select the slicers from the dropdown menus: Principal Network, School, and School Term.

Step 2: There are two options: select the red 'Click here for the entire rubric' button or select the grey 'Click here' button to display the descriptors and descriptions for each element.

Step 3: Select the School Excellence Framework (SEF) descriptor that best describes the school’s current practice from the drop-down menu underneath the label 'Step 2'.

Step 4: Write a high-level summary of the strengths and opportunities in the corresponding text boxes.

Note: These aspects will form the IPMs as part of your School Improvement Plan (SIP) and will need to be added to your SIP in the SPaRO system. This can be exported as a PDF and used as evidence in the SPaRO system.

Step 5: Click the ‘Save’ button at the bottom right-hand side of the page to ensure your entry is captured in the system and can be accessed later. Repeat steps 1 to 5 for each of the focus areas according to your school’s focus.

Viewing the Guided AHA School Self-assessment results

Once you have saved the completed chosen focus area, the Guided AHA self-assessment tool will provide a summary of strengths and areas for improvement.

Strengths and areas for improvement should be included in your Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP) and Implementation and Progress Monitoring (IPM) in SPaRO.

Step 1: To access the summary, select 'School Analysis & Resources' from the left-hand sidebar. Ensure the correct Network, School and School Term is selected in the slicers.

The page will display:

• Spider chart – Assessment Value by question
• Line Chart – Assessment value by Question and Term
• Table – Menu of Universal resources

Spider chart – Assessment Value by Question

Markers placed toward the centre of the spider chart show unanswered questions and markers placed toward the outside of the spider chart display progress along the four-point scale toward 'Excelling'.

Any questions rated as 'Working Towards' (2) should be considered a priority and should be addressed in your school's IPM.

See the below example where E2 and E4 have been rated as 'Working towards'.

Line Chart – Assessment Value by Question and Term

This chart plots questions along the horizontal axis and ratings (Assessment Value) along the vertical axis for each time the assessment has been completed.

Any questions rated as 'Working towards' should be considered a priority and should be addressed in your school's IPM.

The chart below displays self-assessment values by elements across each school term and can be used to examine trends over time.

Table – Menu of Universal Resources

The three Focus Areas and the associated Universal Resources are listed at the bottom of the page. This list can be used to locate Universal resources to assist in improving areas identified in steps 3 and 4, or to identify what resources are available for relevant focus areas.

To locate a resource, choose a Focus area and then select the link next to the question identified as an opportunity for improvement.
