The Welcome Experience is a new service supporting essential workers and their families who are thinking of moving or have made the move to a rural location. The service connects you and your family with local people and local resources to help you settle in and feel at home in your new community faster.

Placement details

Terms 1 - 4, 2025 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application).

Role description: The successful applicant will take on the role of K-2 classroom teacher or 3-6 classroom teacher. This will be decided in negotiation with the successful applicant.

K-2 classroom will include implementation of the K-2 curriculum with a strong focus on early years reading strategies.

3-6 classroom will include implementation of the 3-6 curriculum along with additional interschool sporting events and excursions. These includ attendance at sporting carnivals in Griffith and primary excursions to Sydney (overnight Young Leaders) and Melbourne (3 day end of year excursion).

Accommodation details

Teaching housing is currently available on the school site. Occasionally accommodation or shared accommodation (farm stays) may be available in Weethalle.

West Wyalong is 60km drive (Principal lives in this community) there may be rental properties available. Griffith is 100km drive (SAM lives in this community) rentals may also be available in this community.

Other neighbouring communities include Barellan, Ungarie and Rankins Springs, all with in 30minute radius. Rental accommodation was not available in these communities at time of advertisement.

Please note: Teacher Housing availability can depend upon a variety of factors, including vacancy status and potential priority offers to other staff with full time rural appointments. Teacher Housing Authority (THA) may not be able to confirm the allocation of properties until all applications have been received and processed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss property availability directly with THA. Participants of the Rural Experience Program are not eligible for the Housing Rental Subsidy but may rent a property (at market value) through the THA if available.

School details

Weethalle Public School is located on Wiradjuri Country, 2hrs east of Hay and 40minutes West of West Wyalong. Approximately 6hrs from the NSW coast.

We have a wonderful school with a supportive community. Currently, we have 12 students. 7 in the primary and 5 in Infants. We are located within 1 hours drive of Griffith and 2 hours drive of Wagga Wagga. Both are large centres with all the services and facilities you could expect. Most families will do their weekly shopping in West Wyalong, which has 2 supermarkets and a number of cafes and pubs.

Weethalle has a thriving farming community that keeps most families occupied throughout the year with planting and harvesting crops. Weethalle Public School is a wonderful place to teach, with the support of the Rural Experience Program we are able to offer additional release, with all teachers receiving 3 hours of release per week with additional full days release twice per term to support collaborative planning. All staff, students and parents are welcoming and supportive, and happy to help out to make the rural experience a success for both our school and successful applicant.
