The New Arrivals Program provides additional teaching support to schools enrolling eligible newly arrived EAL/D students. This additional teaching support is provided for up to four school terms. Funding is based on a sliding scale according to the numbers of eligible students enrolled, generally up to a maximum allocation of 1.0 FTE.

Schools enrolling students from a refugee background may attract a bilingual support allocation, filled by a School Learning Support Officer (Bilingual). This bilingual support allocation is provided to newly arrived EAL/D students from a refugee background in their first four terms of enrolment. Bilingual SLSO refugee support allocations commence at a minimum of four students and increase according to the numbers of eligible newly arrived EAL/D students from a refugee background enrolled, up to a maximum allocation of 1.0 FTE.

The Intensive English Outreach class is an initiative under the New Arrivals Program and Central Sydney Intensive English High School (CSIEHS) providing intensive English teaching support for newly arrived secondary students in some rural and regional high schools. Lessons delivered virtually by EAL/D teachers at CSIEHS are provided for two hours per day for an average of two school terms per student. To be considered for the Intensive English Outreach Program, students must be eligible for NAP support, be at the Beginning EAL/D phase and be in Years 7–10.

The Henry Parkes Equity Resource Centre provides New Arrivals Program resource kits for schools. The kit contains specialised resources to support the organisation and delivery of a New Arrivals program in schools. The resources can support the assessing, planning and teaching and learning of newly arrived EAL/D students. Resources include ESL Scales, curriculum frameworks, teacher professional learning materials and student learning materials. These resources should be used to supplement existing school curriculum support resources.
