Engaging the community

Clear and ongoing communication is essential to maintaining your connection with your students when learning remotely.

Ensure everyone knows how messages will be sent and what channels they should be checking. For example, email, digital learning platforms, school website, social media, phone, web conferencing tools.

It is important you and your staff follow the agreed school processes for making contact with students and parents including:

  • providing access to teachers for learning support
  • EAL/D
  • student counselling support.

It is also important parents understand who can help them if they need technology support.

Parents or carers will be the go-between for many messages between teachers and students. Over-communicating is recommended to ensure everyone feels connected, supported, and confident.

Try to make instructions as clear and concise as you can, use plain English and check if you or members of your school community need translation services.
