The department's School Counsellor in Training Program has a number of pathways to support your journey in becoming a school counsellor. Successful applicants receive generous financial and study leave incentives whilst studying, a permanent position as a school counsellor in a NSW public school upon successful completion of studies and an attractive ongoing salary once appointed.

Are you a teacher eligible to apply for a fifth-year psychology program?

Teachers who have completed 4 years of APAC-accredited psychology studies are eligible to apply for the fifth-year pathway. This pathway offers further flexibility through either a Full time pathway or a Flexible pathway, designed to fit your needs toward becoming a school counsellor.

Both pathways provide tuition fees, placement supervision, a Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology) from Charles Sturt University, and a full-time permanent position upon successful completion of the course.

Are you a teacher eligible to apply for a fourth-year psychology program?

Teachers eligible to apply for the fourth-year scholarship will have completed an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited three year sequence of psychology equivalent to an undergraduate program, Graduate Diploma or equivalent, within the previous five years, and meet the eligibility requirements for entry into an APAC approved Honours program at the university of their choice.

Following the completion of the Honours academic program, you will be eligible to apply for entry into Charles Sturt University’s, Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology) under the School Counsellor in Training Program via the Full-time and Flexible pathways.

Successful recipients will nominate the School Counselling Program pathway they will transition into at the completion of their fourth year studies as part of the application process.

Fourth-year scholarship recipients receive:

  • up to 40 study leave days to support you during your 1 year of Honours academic studies

  • up to 40 casual relief days paid to schools during your 1 year of Honours academic studies

  • on successful completion of an Honours academic program, eligibility to apply for entry into Charles Sturt University’s, Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology) under the School Counsellor in Training Program via the Full-time and Flexible pathways.
