This scholarship is open to teachers currently teaching or able to teach science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), or teachers particularly focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and technology implementation, in NSW schools, TAFE NSW campuses or NSW early childhood education and care services.
The scholarship is for a study of STEM education relevant to NSW curriculums, with a focus on an interdisciplinary curriculum approach to real-world context, or an investigation of new, emerging and existing technologies and how they could be applied in the context of effective teaching practice.
One suggested topic area to be explored is the use of AI and large language modules in schools.
The University of New England (UNE) can support the scholarship recipient by:
- providing an introduction about the topic, including an overview of new, emerging, and existing teaching, and learning technologies
- organising meetings and visits with Australian and international schools which leverage technology and data in effective ways to support teachers, school leaders and students, and to improve education outcomes
- providing insights about the digital transformation journey, including the adoption of education technologies at a national and international level, and providing introductions to thought leaders in education technology
- offering advanced standing towards one 6 credit point elective unit for the Master of Education program at UNE (should the recipient choose to write a 6000-word report on their findings and recommendations – to be provided to relevant local regional offices – and have that report assessed by UNE).
The successful applicant will undertake a study tour of up to 5 weeks internationally or within Australia. Study tour travel is to be completed in one block between 1 January and 30 June 2026, with follow-up activities and reporting to be completed within 90 days of study tour completion.
Time may involve formal study, for example, undertaking a short course at a respected tertiary institution, or a program of visits to sites, schools and institutions to conduct interviews, observe exemplary practices and collect resources for the preparation of teaching materials related to the specific scholarship category.
The Scholarship Terms and Conditions apply to all NSW Premier's Teacher Scholarships. Applicants should refer to the FAQs for applicants when preparing and submitting an application. As part of the online application, applicants must upload their research and study tour proposal along with the Endorsement of Application form. Researching and writing an application may count as professional development to help maintain your accreditation. One scholarship of $15,000 will be offered for travel during 2026.
