This scholarship is open to teachers currently teaching history in NSW schools or TAFE NSW campuses who are individual financial members of the History Teachers' Association of NSW.
This scholarship is for a study in any aspect of history and history education, designed to support history teaching in NSW. This could include studies into aspects of Australian or international history. The History Teacher's Association NSW would encourage scholarship recipients to disseminate the findings of their completed scholarship projects to teachers at conferences and through other mediums.
Recent recipients of the Premier's History Teachers' Association History Scholarship have completed projects on:
- making modern Iranian history accessible to Australian teenagers
- Australian surf culture and the anti-war movement
- the historiography of the Salem Witch Hunt
- maritime archaeology in history education
- exploring modern European dictatorships through sources
- history and memory in the former USSR
- approaches to teaching Indigenous histories.
The successful applicant will undertake a study tour and follow-up activities of up to five weeks internationally or within Australia. Study tour travel is to be completed in one block between 1 January and 30 June 2025, with individual follow-up activities and reporting to be completed within 90 days of study tour completion.
Time may involve formal study (e.g., undertaking a short course at a respected tertiary institution) or may involve a program of visits to sites, schools and institutions to conduct interviews, observe exemplary practices and collect resources for the preparation of teaching materials related to the specific scholarship category.
A portion of time (up to one week) may be allocated toward follow-up dissemination activities (e.g., experience-sharing, professional learning) within and across NSW, either in-person or virtually.
Up to two scholarships of $10,000 each will be offered for travel during 2025.
Proudly supported by the History Teachers’ Association of NSW.
