Horticulture Landscape Construction – Certificate III

This course is primarily for people who are employed as apprentice landscapers in the landscape construction sector of the horticulture industry. The apprentice will acquire the skills and knowledge to establish turf and plant and cultivate trees, shrubs, ornamental and flowering plants: and set out sites for landscaping work.

School based apprentices will acquire practical knowledge and skills in landscape construction. They will learn how to plant and cultivate trees, shrubs, ornamental and flowering plants and establish turf; set out sites for landscape work; lay paving; erect timber structures; construct concrete, brick and stone features and retaining walls; install irrigation and drainage systems; install water features. Students will learn the underlying principles of design, the design process, standard industry procedure, plant selection and placement, permaculture principles and practices and produce computer aided drawings.

Outcome on completion of your HSC

  • Statement of Competencies Achieved for Certificate III in Landscape Construction AHC30916 from AHC Agriculture, Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management Training Package.
  • A career path into the Horticulture Industry.

Course delivery

  • Will be delivered both on the job and off the job.
  • Two years part time during school, followed by three years full time post-school in both on and off the job training.

Commitment required

  • Undertake a minimum of 144 days in paid employment plus the formal training to complete the qualification.
  • Undertake Certificate III in Landscape Construction and complete Stage 1 of this qualification by the end of your HSC.
  • The employment and training can be undertaken during school time, after school and during school holidays.

How will you be assessed?

  • Both on the job and off the job through written tests, project work and practical exercises.

This optional course recognises the significant work component involved in the school based apprenticeship.

The course offers an additional 4 units credit towards your HSC.

This HSC VET course does not contribute towards the calculation of the ATAR.
