Templates

These templates have been developed to assist schools in implementing the Good Governance Principles (PDF 5,871KB) and meeting not-for-profit requirements. Schools can adopt these based on their own needs. The list is sorted alphabetically:

  • Board skills assessment table (XLSX 20KB) - helps schools to identify skills gaps in the board structure. Effective board structure and member composition support boards to make sound decisions, manage risk and meet their legal obligations, including the requirement to operate not-for-profit. School boards should manage their composition to include a diverse mix of skills/capabilities, experience and knowledge.
  • Compliance action plan (XLSX, 13KB) - is a list of actions that the school will implement to address the issues/compliance gaps identified by schools, boards, and external experts, such as auditors or assessors.
  • Conflict of interest register (XLSX 15KB) - allows schools to keep a running document of all ongoing conflicts or potential conflicts. Timely, full and transparent disclosures of conflicts of interest are crucial for school boards to meet the legal obligations to operate on a not-for-profit basis.
  • Responsible person training register (XLSX, 19KB) - records professional learning and training undertaken by each responsible person for the school to ensure to meet the minimum training requirement. A minimum number of hours of governance professional development for responsible persons is a NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) requirement for non-government school registration.
  • Related party transaction register (XLSX, 16KB) - allows schools to keep a running document of all historical and ongoing related party transactions. Timely, full and transparent disclosures of related entities and individuals are crucial for school boards to meet the legal obligations to operate on a not-for-profit basis.
  • Risk register (XLSX 20KB) - records all identified risks, the likelihood and consequences of a risk occurring, the action plan to reduce those risks and who is responsible for managing the risks. It should work together with the risk management framework to reduce potential harm to the school.
