2019 NSW term dates*

  • Term 1 (Eastern division) – Tuesday 29 January to Friday 12 April
  • Term 1 (Western division) – Tuesday 5 February to Friday 12 April
  • Term 2 – Monday 29 April to Friday 5 July
  • Term 3 – Monday 22 July to Friday 27 September
  • Term 4 – Monday 14 October to Friday 20 December

School development days*

Term dates include school development days at the start of Terms 1, 2 and 3, and the last 2 days of the school year in NSW public schools.

  • Eastern division – Tuesday 29 January
  • Western division – Tuesday 5 February
  • All schools – Monday 29 April, Monday 22 July, Thursday 19 December, Friday 20 December

Western Division

Schools in the Western Division, also known as 'late start schools', are located in the far western region of NSW. The eastern boundary of the division runs from Mungindi on the Queensland border to the Murray River near Balranald, as defined by the Department of Industry.

Schools in Western Sydney are not considered Western Division schools.

Test and exam dates

  • Selective high school placement test – Thursday 14 March
  • NAPLAN paper test – Tuesday 14 May to Thursday 16 May
  • NAPLAN online test window – Tuesday 14 May to Friday 24 May
  • Opportunity class placement test – Wednesday 31 July
  • HSC written examinations – Thursday 17 October to Tuesday 12 November

NAPLAN tests are held in the second full week of May each year. For specific dates and further information, visit National Assessment Program – key dates.
