    1. The department recognises that school libraries are an important educational and wellbeing resource for students.
    2. School libraries make a direct contribution to achieving the objectives of the department’s Our Plan for NSW Public Education.
    3. Principals are responsible for planning, resourcing and budgeting so that their school library meets the needs of their students and school community.
    4. The department employs specialist teacher librarians who collaborate with teaching colleagues to support planning and implement the teaching and learning programs of schools.
    5. The department provides funding for teacher librarian hours based on the number of students enrolled at a school.
