Film By... is an annual series of over 20 film festivals held in schools and cinemas across the state. This year it is opening with 'Film By... Aussie Kids', inviting students from public schools to share their stories of the bushfire crisis.

Students can create short films about their experiences of the impact of the bushfires on themselves and their community. The films can be uploaded to the Film By... website, with selected films to be shared online.

Glen Carter, president of Film By..., said the bushfires have had a significant impact on young people.

"During these devastating times we have seen some terrible losses and witnessed heroic deeds and acts of generosity," Mr Carter said.

"Film By... Aussie Kids will help capture some of that and allow students to express themselves in a creative way."

Film By... Aussie Kids aims to help students and communities in the recovery phase by giving young people a platform to share their voice.

In 2020 Film By... enters its 10th year with around 20 film festivals to be held across the state. Since its establishment more than 1,000 student films have been produced and training provided to more than 700 teachers.

Film By... helps improve student outcomes by supporting creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication. Film By... festivals will open later this year.
