The Minns Labor Government is making progress on its commitment to deliver a new high school for the growing Melrose Park community as designs for the new public high school are released for community feedback.

The new Melrose Park high school will be a multi-storey facility, featuring modern classrooms including specialist support classrooms, a library, outdoor learning spaces, landscaping and open play space.

Accommodating for the anticipated increase in enrolments in the area, the new Melrose Park high school site is being masterplanned for future growth, ensuring families can access a world-class public education close to home.

The new public high school is scheduled for completion by Day 1 Term 1, 2027. Planning approval for the new high school is expected in mid-2025.

A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) was placed on public exhibition on Friday 14 March, and the community is invited to view and provide feedback on the proposal.

To view the plans or make a submission, visit the NSW Planning Portal link on the department’s project webpage .The exhibition closes on Thursday 10 April 2025.

The new high school will be located at 37 Hope Street, within the Melrose Park north redevelopment precinct, where an area has been rezoned for a school.

The Melrose Park precinct is being redeveloped from primarily industrial uses to a high density residential and mixed-use precinct, providing up to 11,000 new dwellings. The delivery of the new high school will cater to this growing community, as well as adjoining areas, to meet demand across the area.

In November last year, the Minns Labor Government announced significant reform to fast-track delivery of new and upgraded public schools by cutting red tape in the planning system.

The new high school in Melrose Park is one of the first new school projects to go through the streamlined approvals process.

Thorough assessments of the environmental impact of projects will still be conducted, along with consultation with the community, council and other stakeholders.

It comes as the Minns Labor Government continues work on a full redevelopment of Melrose Park Public School. Also due for completion on Day 1, Term 1 2027, the major upgrades will increase the school’s capacity from 170 to more than 700.

This is part of the Minns Labor Government’s record $8.9 billion investment to deliver new and upgraded schools across NSW, including a record $3.6 billion for schools in Western Sydney, as we work to tackle a school infrastructure backlog left after ten years of neglect by the Liberals and Nationals.

In the broader area, the Minns Labor Government is also delivering a new primary school at Midtown Macquarie Park, the Macquarie Park Education Campus, and upgrades to Dundas Public School and Parramatta East Public School.

Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:

“The Minns Labor Government is proud to be delivering world-class schools for the growing Melrose Park community, after years of inaction by the former Liberal Government.

“The Melrose Park community is continuing to grow, and our Labor government is continuing to invest in this area so every child can access high-quality public schools close to home.

“Investing in public school infrastructure is part of the Minns Government’s plan to rebuild public education, ensuring all students across NSW can access the best possible education.”

Member for Parramatta Donna Davis said:

"This school upgrade will enrich the lives of students academically, physically and creatively while supporting the continued population growth of Melrose Park for years to come.

“Making these investments in public education means our schools remain valuable community assets, providing benefits to local families and children for generations.”

Federal Member for Bennelong Jerome Laxale said:

“Successive Liberal and Nationals Governments have failed to provide the necessary high school investments needed for our growing community, and it is fantastic to see they are now being built where they are needed.”
