The Minns Labor Government is continuing to ensure fast-growing communities in Western Sydney have the schools they need to cater to young families moving to the area, with a first look at both the Melrose Park Public School redevelopment and the new Melrose Park High School being revealed today.
Committed to during the election, renders of the overdue redevelopment of Melrose Park Public School have been released, giving the community a first glimpse at the planned renewed campus before construction starts next year.
The redevelopment of Melrose Park Public School, to be delivered by Day 1, Term 1, 2027, will include new classrooms, a new library, a new school hall and covered outdoor learning area, new staff administration facilities and a new public preschool to cater for young families in the area.
The upgrade will help the school cater to the area’s booming population, which increased by more than 30 per cent between 2016 and 2021. Currently just over 170 students attend the school, with the upgrades set to increase the school’s capacity to more than 700.
Delivering on another election commitment, the Government has today also released early, indicative masterplans of the new public high school in Melrose Park. Construction on the new school will commence next year, with up to 700 students set to begin their high school careers at the new facilities in 2027.
The land for this school is conveniently located next door to the existing Melrose Park Public School. The former Liberal National government failed to deliver these school projects for the Melrose Park community, despite announcing this location and committing to build this long-overdue infrastructure on the eve of the 2019 election.
This investment in Melrose Park part of the Minns Labor Government’s long-term plan to build better communities, with our record $3.6 billion investment to continue delivering a pipeline of new and upgraded schools in Western Sydney.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:
“I am pleased to share designs for the major upgrades at Melrose Park Public School and the new high school with the local community.
“This community has grown significantly in recent years and it is important that young Melrose Park families know there are high-quality local public schools their children can attend.
“After 12 years of neglect by the Liberals and Nationals, we are working to ensure growing communities have the essential school facilities they need so every child can access a high-quality public education.”
Member for Bennelong Jerome Laxale said:
“It is imperative that we continue to invest in delivering high-quality public schools, so young families can grow and thrive.
“The redevelopment of Melrose Park Public School is testament to this Government’s commitment to providing the best public school infrastructure where it is needed most.”
Member for Parramatta Donna Davis said:
“Our community is excited about the ‘big reveal’ of the designs for the redevelopment of Melrose Park Public School and the new high school, to support this fast-growing population.
"Our rapidly growing community will soon benefit from this important primary school project, and we all look forward to the seeing the finished result.”
