  • Permanent employees who hold a substantive position as a teacher and meet the eligibility requirements in the Rural Experience Guidelines may apply for either of these placements.
  • Non-permanent employees (those on a temporary engagement / contract and casual employees) who meet the eligibility requirements in the Rural Experience Guidelines may apply for either of these placements.

Placement details

Terms 1 - 4, 2023 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application)

Role description: The successful applicant will be involved in a full-time placement of 1.0FTE at Yetman PS. This is primarily an Inclusive Education initiative, and would suit a proficient teacher with a special interest in working with students with significant additional needs in a rural setting.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and learning support staff to provide high quality and personalised learning opportunities for students within a multi-stage K-6 classroom.

The successful applicant will be committed to embedding the use of data to drive and inform teaching practices and improve student learning outcomes. There will be leadership opportunities for the successful applicant to develop and implement evidence based teaching and learning practices at YPS and within a small schools’ collaborative learning framework.

Yetman Public School currently has fourteen students with eight in the K-2 class and six in the year 5 class. 

Desired candidate expertise:

Two students in year 5 at YPS have significant curriculum, communication, social, movement and health needs.

The successful applicant will be proficient at delivering teaching and learning to students with additional needs through curriculum adjustments; signing, speech and language development; gross and fine motor programs; and behaviour management. Currently, each student is supported by a full-time SLSO at all times.

The right teacher will have experience in working with students to provide an inclusive education. The identified students will be in year 6 in 2023 and will need targeted, inclusive support strategies for communication and socialisation with peers in order to transition to high school in 2024.

Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively along with well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents in required. 

Accommodation details

Private rental accommodation may be available in the township of Yetman. Additional accommodation could be sourced in the nearby towns of Ashford, Boggabilla or Texas (QLD). There may also be some accommodation on surrounding farming properties. Both Yetman and Texas have caravan parks. 

Please note: Teacher Housing availability can depend upon a variety of factors, including vacancy status and potential priority offers to other staff with full time rural appointments. Teacher Housing Authority (THA) may not be able to confirm allocation of properties until all applications have been received and processed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss property availability directly with THA. Participants of the Rural Experience Program are not eligible for the Housing Rental Subsidy but may rent a property (at market value) through the THA if available.

Yetman Public School, on the Macintyre River, proudly serves its very supportive farming community, in buildings set in beautiful grounds, and has a strong history of educational leadership dating back to 1867. The school has high-speed internet, excellent technology resources, extensive recreational and sporting facilities, and functions as a community centre for the small village. There is a strong focus on environmental sustainability through our Garden Gurus and Cooking Club initiatives.

Yetman is located just 30 minutes from the town of Texas, QLD; 40 minutes to Goondiwindi, QLD; 90 minutes to Toowoomba, QLD; and 80 minutes to Inverell, NSW. The three smaller towns have facilities which include public pools, hotels, restaurants, shopping centres, libraries, and sporting facilities. Toowoomba and Inverell have extensive services and major retailers.
