Terms 1 - 4, 2023 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application).

Role description: We are looking for a dynamic, flexible and creative teacher who is up for an adventure at our small school on the edge of the outback. Our amazing students will teach you so much about life on the land in Wailwan Country. Your anticipated teaching role will be classroom teacher of the 3-5 cohort. You will be responsible for the day-to-day teaching and learning of Stage 2/3 students. You will also join in our whole-school STEAM projects, gardening and other activities.

The successful candidate will enthusiastically want to throw themselves into all aspects of QPS school life including the small-schools sports carnivals, excursions, exhibitions and Show events. You should bring to QPS your passion for teaching to meet the academic and well-being needs of the students. Desired expertise:

  • Ability to teach from K-6 with a willingness to teach a multi-stage class.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to engage with all students, staff, parents and the wider community to build authentic relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality, differentiated literacy and numeracy programs driven by research-based practices to meet the needs of a diverse range of abilities.
  • While not a requirement, we would be excited to attract someone to this position who has an area of expertise, such as music, visual arts, STEAM or technology.

Accommodation details

A range of rental options may be available to the successful applicant, depending on specific needs. A 3-bedroom farmhouse is available within the community which would accommodate a family or single. Several houses in the surrounding area are currently available for rent through local agencies or private rental.

Please note: Teacher Housing availability can depend upon a variety of factors, including vacancy status and potential priority offers to other staff with full time rural appointments. Teacher Housing Authority (THA) may not be able to confirm allocation of properties until all applications have been received and processed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss property availability directly with THA. Participants of the Rural Experience Program are not eligible for the Housing Rental Subsidy but may rent a property (at market value) through the THA if available.

School details

Quambone Public School is a beautifully maintained, very well-resourced small school located in the Central West. Quambone is a quaint village serviced by a post office, general store and hotel. We have a swimming pool, tennis court and many community events throughout the year, giving you opportunities to participate in rural life. Kangaroos, emus, echidnas and a variety of birdlife abound. Quambone is approximately 200 kilometres north-west of Dubbo and close to the world-renowned Macquarie Marshes. The closest town, Coonamble, is 30 minutes away.

The anticipated school enrolments for 2023 is 9 students across K-6. QPS serves a diverse and supportive community. We are focused on maintaining a strong cooperative relationship between staff, community and students. Reading and numeracy outcomes are targeted, and every child is known, valued and cared for. Although the school is small, we ensure that all students have access to quality sporting and performing arts opportunities.

There is a strong sense of collegiality amongst staff with regular professional discussion and ongoing learning. We regularly engage with staff from other Western Plains schools.
