  • Permanent employees who hold a substantive position as a teacher and meet the eligibility requirements in the Rural Experience Guidelines may apply for either of these placements.
  • Non-permanent employees (those on a temporary engagement / contract and casual employees) who meet the eligibility requirements in the Rural Experience Guidelines may apply for either of these placements.

Literacy / Numeracy / STEM support teacher K-6

Placement details

Terms 1 - 4, 2023 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application)

The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering planned support in the literacy, numeracy and STEM area to K-6 students in the school. This placement will require the successful applicant to work closely with classroom teachers using a collaborative and informative approach to analyse data, plan and implement future teaching with a specific focus on differentiated learning and improving student outcomes.

Additional commitments: Extra-curricular responsibilities are welcomed and based on interest and needs of the school.

Desired candidate expertise:

  • Demonstrated capacity and well-developed skills in catering for individual students learning needs.
  • Knowledge of the K-6 syllabus
  • Interest, willingness and experience to teach specific KLA as mentioned above.
  • Experience and knowledge in using technology/STEM
  • Ability to interrupt individual and whole school data to monitor student progress, design and implement future learning on a whole class, group and individual level.

Accommodation details

Accommodation would be available in Wentworth (10 minutes drive), Mildura (35 mins drive) or areas surrounding these towns eg Gol Gol, Buronga and Merbein. The types of accommodation varies from 1 bedroom upwards – an idea of costs can be found by searching for rentals online in these areas. Many local caravan parks have fully furnished cabins for rent too. Share accommodation may also be possible through the school depending on circumstances.

There are no services at Pomona. A vehicle would be essential, as there are no public transport options available to travel to or from service areas such as Wentworth or Mildura to the school. Current members of staff live around the Wentworth/Mildura/Gol Gol areas and drive to the school each day.

Please note: Teacher Housing availability can depend upon a variety of factors, including vacancy status and potential priority offers to other staff with full time rural appointments. Teacher Housing Authority (THA) may not be able to confirm allocation of properties until all applications have been received and processed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss property availability directly with THA. Participants of the Rural Experience Program are not eligible for the Housing Rental Subsidy but may rent a property (at market value) through the THA if available.

Pomona Public School is a small rural TP2 K-6 school located near the Darling River in the locality of Pomona. Pomona is 11km north of the township of Wentworth or 40km north west of the city Mildura, Victoria. The drive to each location is on open roads with 100km speed limits. Pomona Public School is part of the Sunraysia cluster of schools and has close relationships with other local school communities, as well as those in the broader Far West Group of Schools.

The anticipated enrolment for 2023 is 20 students – 10 students in K-2, and 10 in 3-6.

School families are located both from within the settlement and outlying areas. The school enjoys strong community support and has an active P & C committee.

Attractive beautiful school grounds and classrooms equipped with excellent teaching resources provide an outstanding learning environment for all students.

Strong community relationships are an important aspect of the school with a high level of community consultation and involvement. The school culture is positive with students and parents alike taking great pride in our school. Our school community values education and is supportive of the school.

The school is very well resourced. In technology, the computer ratio is 1:1 with laptops and ipads, it has interactive screens in each classroom and lots of STEM technology.

Staff work collaboratively and are committed to providing high quality, differentiated learning opportunities for all students, as well as constantly developing their own skills through ongoing Professional Learning.

Opportunities may also exist to interact with other schools across the Sunraysia network of schools.
