We have successfully hosted three Rural Experience Teacher placements in the past; Rachael in 2019, Kylie in 2022, and Emma in 2023. Currently, in 2024, we are hosting two Rural Experience placements with Jenny and Kylie having both joined us for the year.

Rachael: ‘I completed the Rural Experience Program at Mathoura Public School in 2019. It was such a rewarding and life changing experience that when a permanent job was advertised the next year, I jumped at the chance to return to the area. With the support and encouragement of my new principal, I was then successful in gaining a full-time leadership position as APCI at a neighbouring school. I highly recommend the program’.

Kylie: ‘I had such a wonderful experience in 2022, with friendly and supportive staff, and amazing students – it felt like home.’

Emma: ‘I am so glad that I decided to take part Rural Experience Program at Mathoura Public School in 2023. The staff are incredibly supportive, and the wider school community has been very welcoming. I was extremely fortunate to have been offered a temporary position at the school again in 2024 and I am enjoying my time here in the country.'

Kylie: ‘I am currently working at Mathoura Public School as part of the Rural Experience Program. I have been warmly welcomed by both staff and students and am relishing my time here. The school is well-resourced and structured, making it a great learning environment that the students enjoy. I have moved a considerable distance away from my family, but everyone has been so accommodating I feel like my family is here. The area is so peaceful and picturesque I could easily live here permanently.’

Jenny: ‘I feel very privileged to be working at Mathoura Public School this year. There is a wonderful happy, friendly rapport amongst the staff and students. High expectations are applied to all aspects of teaching and learning, and the school is set within lovely grounds. I would recommend Mathoura PS to any potential Rural Experience Program teacher.’
