The Welcome Experience is a new service supporting essential workers and their families who are thinking of moving or have made the move to a rural location. The service connects you and your family with local people and local resources to help you settle in and feel at home in your new community faster.

Placement details

Terms 1 - 4, 2025 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application).

Role description: The successful applicant will be involved in delivering RFF to both classes (K, 1, 2 and 3, 4, 5, 6) through library and STEAM Lessons each week. Any professional development the successful applicant may need in these areas will be provided at the school’s cost.

The successful applicant will be required to participate in all school activities including extra-curricular sporting, cultural and wellbeing initiatives,

The successful applicant will be committed to working towards staff and principal with the implementation of the school plan, including focusing on supporting students from both classes with intensive literacy and numeracy support.

The anticipated teaching load of the placement will be 1.0 Full-time.

Additional commitments: Extra-curricular responsibilities include supporting classroom teachers in their everyday practice.

Desired candidate expertise:

  • Approval / willingness to teach Kindergarten to Year 6
  • Interest in/willingness to teach Library, STEAM and Sport
  • Well-developed skills in teaching K-6.

Accommodation details

Teacher housing may be available. In the Delegate township, there is rental accommodation available. The Delegate Progress Association also has short- and long-term rental properties available at a discounted rate for any successful applicant.

Please note: Teacher Housing availability can depend upon a variety of factors, including vacancy status and potential priority offers to other staff with full time rural appointments. Teacher Housing Authority (THA) may not be able to confirm the allocation of properties until all applications have been received and processed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss property availability directly with THA. Participants of the Rural Experience Program are not eligible for the Housing Rental Subsidy but may rent a property (at market value) through the THA if available.

School details

Delegate Public School is of high standing in the local community and the wider educational network. Current enrolment is 27 students in two classes, a K-2 and 3-6. The school is extremely well-resourced, including the allocation of one-to-one technology for all students. All learning spaces are fully equipped with interactive touch panels that allow access to all web-based technologies.

Delegate Public School is proud of our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program that operates each week. Students have access to a well-stocked and high-quality Vegetable Garden as well as a purposely built industrial/commercial kitchen for students to work in that rivals many high schools across the state.

The school has its own 25-seat school Bus that allows students and staff the opportunity to access extracurricular activities with ease.

During 2024 as well as moving forward into 2025 and beyond, Delegate Public School is involved in a program with the University of Canberra to raise aspirations amongst the Delegate Community. This initiative will see nine reciprocal visits between the school and university.

Delegate PS is well invested in providing all students with the same opportunities as students from larger regional and metropolitan schools. Meaning students have wonderful opportunities to participate in sports programs including, Athletics, Swimming, Cross Country, Snow Sports, a wide range of excursions and much, much more.

Two previous successful applicants have gone onto promotional positions within the department in other rural and remote areas. One as a Substantive Principal and one as a Relieving Principal, highlighting the opportunities that can arise after aone year stint at Delegate Public School.

Our geographical location is ideally located for a range of recreational activities. Located halfway between the coastal towns of Merimbula/Pambula and the NSW Snowfields of Perisher Valley/Thredbo makes Delegate the ideal location for all season’s activities to take place during down times. Our nearest town of Bombala has all amenities needed and is 36km away. Cooma and the coastal towns of Pambula and Merimbula are a little over an hour away where larger supermarkets are available to all.

Staff are highly supportive of each other, students, and the wider community. The culture within the staff is extremely positive and one where everyone is known valued and cared for.
