About teacher housing
The NSW Government owns and manages approximately 1,400 teacher housing properties across the state. While in general teachers are expected to find their own accommodation, teacher housing supplements supply in some rural areas where it can be difficult to secure suitable accommodation.
Most properties are owned and managed by the Teacher Housing Authority (THA) that sits within Homes NSW. Properties can range from units suitable for singles or couples, to larger family homes. The department offers benefits and incentives, including rental subsidies, to teachers at a number of rural and remote incentive schools.

Who can apply
If you are a permanent or temporary teacher, school counsellor or psychologists employed by the department, you can apply for accommodation in the town you are appointed to. Casual teachers can also apply as long as they are employed at least 2 days per week.
There is no limit on the length of time you may occupy a dwelling, as long as you remain appointed to a school in the area and are employed.
In some circumstances a dwelling may be offered as a restricted tenancy. This means the dwelling may need to be vacated at the request of the THA.
For more information on eligbility and allocation of teacher housing, access the Housing Eligibility and Allocation Policy.
