All teachers must gain and maintain Proficient Teacher accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to teach in a NSW public school or early childhood centre.

Achieving accreditation is the process by which teachers demonstrate quality teaching practice against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (the Standards).

Accreditation upholds the integrity and accountability of the teaching profession and ensures high quality teaching in every classroom and improving student learning outcomes.

Accreditation requires teachers to:

  • reflect on their practice
  • apply the knowledge and skills articulated in the Standards through consistent, evidence-based practice, over time
  • collect evidence that demonstrates they meet the Standards.
