How are the performance and development processes connected?

Tells you what you need to understand, know and do to demonstrate effective teaching practice.

The Performance and Development Framework (PDF 612KB) (the Framework) is a tool to help every teacher, every leader and every school improve every year.

You should use the Framework to identify goals, undertake professional learning to develop your practice and reflect on your progress in each annual cycle.

This includes:

  • setting goals aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (the Standards);
  • engaging in and reflecting on quality professional learning;
  • undertaking observations of classroom practice; and
  • receiving feedback that helps you reflect on your practice and progress toward meeting your goals.

You can use the Standards to refine your practice and support ongoing improvements in student learning and engagement. Accreditation confirms that your practice continues to meet the Standards effectively.

Accreditation, the Standards and the Framework work together to drive your professional development and ensure that your growth supports student growth.

Supports you to ensure your practice continues to meet the Standards at your career stage.

Teaching Standards in Action

Teaching Standards in Action (TSA) is a suite of courses that have been developed to help you understand how the the Standards can shape and strengthen your teaching practice. They combine e-learning with applied learning in your own classroom and in collaboration with your colleagues.

Each TSA course is free of charge, flexible and accessible online at anytime. It can be logged as elective professional development (PD) with NESA and can support the achievement of your professional goals, as outlined in your performance and development plan (PDP).
