The GRP Aboriginal Initiative

Are you a graduate interested in teaching in a school with significant Aboriginal student enrolments?

The department is committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal students in NSW public schools and aims to attract high-achieving graduate teachers to work in schools with significant Aboriginal student enrolments.

How to apply for the GRP: Aboriginal Initiative

You can apply for the GRP: Aboriginal Initiative through the online approval to teach application.

Simply select the option in your application to indicate your interest in the Aboriginal Initiative. You will also have to email interviews@det.nsw.edu.au to request an extended personal suitability interview with an Aboriginal officer.

You will then need to prepare an eligibility statement and suitability criteria statement which address the five suitability criteria for employment as a teacher in a school with significant Aboriginal enrolments. The statement should not exceed two pages and should be prepared from the GRP: Aboriginal Initiative supporting statement template (PDF 356KB).

You will be considered for employment in schools with significant Aboriginal student enrolments (20% of enrolments or 20 or more students) within the nominated locations on your online application.

Information about schools and enrolments can be found on the School Finder website.
