Pilots

We are testing new approaches to improve the Access Request process through a number of pilots in schools. We are learning from these pilots to develop an improved process that can be rolled out across the state. This will better meet the needs of our students and families, as well as their school communities.

Murwillumbah and Goonellabah

A pilot was held in Terms 2 to 4 2019 in schools in Murwillumbah and Goonellabah. The approach successfully reduced the average turnaround time of Access Request decisions. This meant more effective, timely communication to families and schools on Access Requests.

Glenrock and Grafton

Pilots in Term 4, 2019 to Term 1, 2020 are focusing on further streamlining the Access Request process. The pilots are testing new resources and a care coordinator in the school to act as one point of contact for families. This person could be a range of different school staff already involved in the Access Request. We are also working towards more transparent, consistent and timely panel processes by clarifying panel member roles and testing new professional learning.

Learning and feedback from these pilots will help us develop an improved process.

Families with students in the pilot areas can contact their Principal for more information.
