Our current plans and policies
Our schools and communities are diverse, and many of our students and staff have disability.
- We know that more than one in four students needs support in school because of their disability.
- We have found things we need to do to improve inclusion and learning.
- We want to make sure inclusive practices are part of everything we do.
- We listen to feedback and want to continue to improve.
- We will work together to make sure what works well becomes a regular part of our approach.
Our Plan for NSW Public Education
Our Plan for NSW Public Education explains how we will create an equitable and excellent education system for all students, including those with disability. We are committed to ensuring that every student can learn, grow, and feel like they belong at school. Our approach is based on evidence and feedback from our education community. It also builds on what we learned from the 2019 Disability Strategy, and we have completed most of the commitments from that strategy.

Our Disability Inclusion Action Plan
The department has a Disability Inclusion Action Plan that will help create a more inclusive New South Wales. You can read more about it here: Our Disability Inclusion Action Plan
Our Inclusive Education Statement and Policy
The NSW Department of Education values the diversity of its school communities, and is committed to building a more inclusive education system for all students.
All students with disability:
- are entitled to enrol in their local government school if they are eligible to attend
- will be treated on the same basis as a student without disability and without experiencing discrimination
- will be welcomed, accepted and engaged in all aspects of school life free from harassment and discrimination
- are empowered to express their views, set goals, self-advocate and participate in decision-making processes about their education
- will be supported by reasonable adjustments and personalised support.
