Kindergarten to Year 12 curriculum in NSW is set by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). It also awards secondary school credentials, the Record of School Achievement (RoSA) and Higher School Certificate (HSC).

Students in Years 11 and 12 require self-motivation and self-management. For success, senior students need to have:

• a regular study routine
• excellent time management skills
• an ability to prioritise.

HSC subjects

Students in Year 10 choose subjects they will study for the HSC. There is a lot to consider and support is provided by your school to help students make informed decisions about their future.

Schools provide students and parents with varied opportunities to be well-informed about subjects that are offered. You will be notified about parent information evenings, guest speakers, access to careers expos, as well as a range of written information.

The school's career adviser will guide and support each student's subject choices in line with individual career and transition planning.

The University Admissions Centre (UAC)

The Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) calculates the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for HSC students. It also processes applications for most undergraduate courses at participating tertiary institutions.

The ATAR is a number that shows a student's position relative to other students sitting the HSC. A student's entry into an undergraduate course is dependent on their ATAR.
