If running 30 kilometres a day for five days doesn’t sound like fun, you could be content with supporting Whitebridge High School students in the Charlie’s Run 4 Kids charity run.

School captain Kienna Clegg and Charlotte Abrahamson from Year 12 are aiming to run the full 150 kilometres, with captain Matisse Murray, Deizel Danvers, Riley Hollier and Lenni and Willow Waddingham doing 10-kilometre sections of the run.

The marathon effort starts on Wednesday from Seal Rocks and finishes on Sunday, February 17, at Dudley.

Whitebridge High has got behind the runners with fundraising events, including a send-off day last Friday.

Principal Nadene Harvey said the school had a long association with the annual fundraiser to support families of children and young people with cancer.

“Two of our students are members of the Charlie’s Run committee and the Student Representative Council organised the school’s events,” Ms Harvey said.

“With their help, our participants have been raising as much money as possible to support local families.

“It’s become something of a tradition for the school to support the run, and we were delighted to have a guest speaker, Guy Clegg, at the special assembly, followed by activities during the day to raise awareness, and hopefully a few more dollars.”

Mr Clegg, a Charlie’s Run committee member and full-time runner, joined the students on the send-off day, which included competitions, a bake sale and students and staff dressed in pink.

More than 50 runners – full-time, part-time and juniors – will take part in Charlie’s Run 4 Kids, from Seal Rocks to the finishing line at Lydon Oval in Dudley. Community members are encouraged to join in the final five kilometres.

The charity is hoping to raise $100,000 this year. Sponsorships and donations can be made through the organisers’ website.
