There aren’t many students who can pull a letter from the Prime Minister of Australia out of their backpack, but Ali Imran now can.

The Lurnea High School support unit student late last year proudly read his letter from the Prime Minister to fellow classmates.

Teacher Zaffar Khan said Ali’s letter was the result of a class exercise on ways to express gratitude such as by completing a thank-you card or writing a letter to anyone we wished to say thanks to.

"Many chose their mums or Ms Allen, our dedicate Student Learning Support Officer,” Mr Khan said.

“Ali, however, chose to say thank you to the Prime Minister.”

In his letter to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Ali thanked him for “helping Australia secure a promising future”.

“You have a lot of courage and resilience to stand up for what is right,” Ali continued.

His letter of thanks obviously struck a chord as he received a response from the Prime Minister who in turn thanked him for his letter.

“When you tell me about what you’re experiencing and what you’re thinking, about what you believe in and what you hope for – I hear the voice of Australia,” the Prime Minister wrote.

“This is a place where big dreams and hard work will take you far. My path to becoming Prime Minister is proof of that and I hope it inspires you to reach for the stars.”

Mr Khan said Ali was surprised to receive such a quick response from the Prime Minister.

“He was anxious but confidently read the letter to his class. We are all very proud of him to have taken the initiative to write to the Prime Minister."
