No COVID blues with I Got Rhythm
Conservatorium of Music High School graduate Elizabeth Player doesn’t miss a beat as Spectacular Schools’ next production hands it to jazz.
Having already celebrated the suburbs and given voice to talent in the state’s country towns, Spectacular Schools returns with a very city vibe for its latest featured video: I Got Rhythm.
As the name suggests, the item showcases some of the best jazz musicians from the NSW public school system, providing melody, harmony and pizazz – set inside and against the spectacular backdrop of Sydney’s Government House.
The tune features plenty of challenging melodic passages and an opportunity for some jazz improvisation through scat singing.
With 17 students representing 13 different schools from Years 9-12 in the jazz ensemble, everyone gets a moment to shine.
But plenty of the light falls on featured vocalist, Elizabeth Player.
A Conservatorium of Music High School graduate of 2021, Elizabeth is now studying at the Conservatorium of Music for her university training.
She credits Schools Spectacular/Spectacular Schools for much of her music performance development, having been a featured artist since she was 13 years old.
“Being part of I Got Rhythm for Spectacular Schools - Inspired was one of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding things I’ve ever done,” she said.
“I gained so much from the experience, from knowledge of how to record professionally and perform on camera to connections with industry professionals.
“I Got Rhythm not only let me finish my time in Spec with a bang, but reinvigorated my love of performing after years of COVID interruption.”
She added it was more than just a musical experience, likening the performance to acting on a film set and giving participants the chance to sharpen their all-round entertainment skills.
I Got Rhythm follows Born to Be Brave, From Now On and Totems as part of the Spectacular Schools – Inspired series, filmed and produced as alternatives to the Schools Spectacular under the limitations of COVID.
Schools Spectacular returns to the big stage for 2022 at Qudos Bank Arena on November 25 and 26.
The Spectacular Schools Inspired initiative is proudly supported by Telstra, NSW Teachers Federation, School Bytes, Teachers Health, RØDE and teenBreathe.
