A drawing of a Christmas tree, Santa and his reindeer has caught the eye of the Minister for Education and will feature on the cover of her Christmas card this year.

Mason, a Kindergarten student from Newington Public School, has been selected as the winning entry in the Minister’s 2020 Christmas card competition.

For the second year running, the Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell invited Kindergarten students in public schools across NSW to design the cover artwork for her 2020 Christmas card.

Mason had his artwork selected by the Minister for its “bright colours and beautiful detail” which featured Santa Claus, a Christmas tree and a reindeer.

Students were encouraged to use their imagination to create an artwork depicting the theme ‘My Christmas’.

“The quality of the artwork submitted to the competition was outstanding,” Ms Mitchell said.

Ms Mitchell visited Newington Public School to deliver the news and present Mason with a framed copy of his artwork, along with a book and stationery pack, including 20 printed cards featuring his drawing to share with his family and friends.

More than 550 artworks were submitted this year with two students receiving a highly commended award. Fellow Newington Public School student Marcus and Bourke-Walgett School of Distance Education student Darcy, both received a book pack for their artistic creations.
