Taree High School is celebrating its class of ’24 with exceptional results for the Manning Valley school.

Executive Principal of the Connected Communities school, Nigel Reece, said a quarter of HSC students at the school were in the top two bands for subjects such as English Advanced, Visual Arts, Music 1 and Legal Studies.

And 60% of students were in the top three bands, with strong performances in Mathematics Advanced, Drama, PDHPE and Society and Culture.

Four students also excelled in extension courses, securing the top two bands.

Top achievers included Taree High School dux and captain Ffion Davy, with an ATAR of 92.1, Violet Shepherd, Lachlan Murray, Nithara Weththasinghe, Cal Hook and Jacob Tang.

With NSW celebrating a record enrolment of Aboriginal students in Year 12, the Connected Communities strategy is an approach that brings schools and communities together to strengthen educational outcomes for Aboriginal students and all students.

Mr Reece praised the school’s students for their “resilience and commitment”.

He said students were embracing diverse pathways, with 11 of the year’s graduates pursuing school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, TAFE or employment.

School captain Ffion is eager to return to the classroom after being accepted into Charles Sturt University to study PDHPE/Science Teaching.

“These results reflect the incredible effort, resilience and support of our school community,” Mr Reece said.

“We are incredibly proud.”
