Designs released for major school upgrades at Leppington and Austral
Families in southwest Sydney can now view designs for major upgrades to schools in in Leppington and Austral.

South-West Sydney families will soon benefit from major upgrades to their local schools as the Minns Labor Government makes progress on its commitment to improve facilities at Austral Public School and Leppington Public School.
Upgrades to Austral Public School will include providing 20 new permanent classrooms, three new support learning classrooms, refurbishments to the library, upgrades to school administration facilities and the installation of a new staff car park.
A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the project is now on public exhibition, and will be available for viewing on the NSW Planning Portal pageExternal link until Wednesday, 9 April 2025.
At Leppington Public School the upgrade includes delivering 20 new permanent classrooms, three support learning classrooms, a new hall, a new covered outdoor learning area (COLA), an upgrade of the administration facilities and library and a new preschool.
The REF for Leppington Public School is due to go live on Monday, 31 March and will be on exhibition until Sunday, 20 April.
As part of the NSW Labor Government’s historic $769 million commitment to build 100 public preschools co-located with public schools, Leppington Public School will receive a new public preschool, to be delivered by 2027.


Upgrades to both schools will be delivered in two stages, with the first stage for both schools anticipated to be completed by late 2026.
The Leppington area has experienced major population growth in recent years with the number of students in the area more than tripling between 2018 and 2023, according to the NSW Government Enrolment Growth Audit.External link Upgrades to both schools will accommodate for future growth in the area.
Other projects being delivered by the Minns Labor Government in Sydney’s South-West include:
- New high school for Edmondson Park
- New high school for Leppington
- New high school for Gledswood Hills and Gregory Hills
- Dalmeny Public School upgrade
- Greenway Park Public School upgrade and new public preschool
- Eagle Vale High School upgrade
This is part of the Minns Labor Government’s long-term plan to address the school infrastructure backlog left after more than a decade of neglect by the Liberals and Nationals.
As part of this work, we have invested a record $8.9 billion to deliver new and upgraded schools, including a record $3.6 billion for schools in Western Sydney.
