Year 12 Marsden High School student, Brandyn Gaskill, will compete against some of the best CrossFit athletes in the world next month.
Currently ranked eighth in the world and first in Oceania, Brandyn has been invited to take part in the CrossFit Games in Wisconsin, USA.
Principal of Marsden High School, Steve Smith, said it was an outstanding achievement and demonstrated the benefits of the school’s philosophy on enriching student experiences, both inside and outside the classroom.
“Brandyn is such a talented young man and his commitment to CrossFit is nothing short of incredible,” Mr Smith said.
“His success highlights the importance we place on activities outside the classroom at Marsden High.
“We make it our business to support and encourage students to excel in extra-curricular activities of their choosing, which in turn inspires them to want to do better in the classroom.”
CrossFit is a strength, conditioning and overall fitness activity, where the key elements are endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.
Brandyn has been participating in CrossFit for three years and now coaches others at a specialist gym in Gladesville.
“Sport and fitness keep our students happy and healthy,” Mr Smith said.
“Taking the time out from traditional study for extra-curricular activities also encourages our students to develop positive relationships, self-esteem and self-respect.
“We congratulate Brandyn on his great results to date and wish him all the best for the upcoming CrossFit Games.”
