The NSW Department of Education has announced a new timetable for the annual Opportunity Class exam that will enable the state’s brightest Year 4 students to secure their place in a 2021 Opportunity Class.

Department of Education Deputy Secretary School Operations and Performance, Murat Dizdar, said applications for this year’s test open on Tuesday, 9 June and parents will be able to apply online until Friday, 26 June.

The test is scheduled for Wednesday 16 September 2020.

“The new timetable for opportunity class placement will ensure Year 5 students are placed in opportunity classes in 2021 with minimal disruption to schools and families,” Mr Dizdar said.

“The government is committed to the continued education of all students across NSW, including advanced learning programs for high potential and gifted students.”

Placement in an opportunity class in 2021 will be based solely on the results of the test with offers going out to successful students overnight on 1 December 2020.

Orientation day for successful candidates will be scheduled by schools from Monday 7 December.
