About the priority professional learning selector

What is the priority professional learning selector?

The priority professional learning selector provides a curated list of widely accessible professional learning for teachers and school leaders, making it easier to identify and prioritise relevant and high quality PL to support student outcomes. All courses listed in the tool align with the School Excellence Framework, the Department’s Professional Learning Policy for Teachers and School Staff and have been through a rigorous process of quality assurance.

During the interim period (to 31 July 2021), the majority of courses in the selector will receive interim accreditation from NESA as part of the interim arrangements of the new NESA Accreditation of Professional Development Courses Policy. The other courses, which will be noted at the top of each course summary, will contribute to Teacher Identified Professional Development hours (referred to as Elective PD under the new policy). The Priority PL selector excludes Mandatory Training courses..

How do I use the priority professional learning selector?

Search for PL that is relevant to you by selecting your role, stage or key learning area using the filters provided at the top of the page. Use the link on each course page to access additional information and course enrolment.

How have these courses been selected?

Courses on the Priority PL selector are:

  • Widely available: Ensuring that as much as possible the PL was readily available to all relevant staff across NSW, regardless of location.
  • Aligned with the School Excellence Framework (SEF): To ensure alignment with the eight elements that have been found to have the greatest impact on student outcomes: Learning Culture, Wellbeing, Assessment, Curriculum, Effective Classroom Practice, Data Skills and Use, Learning and Development, and Educational Leadership.
  • Compatible with High Impact Professional Learning (HIPL) practice: Ensuring that courses support the cycle of professional learning for school leaders and teachers and are focused on deepening teaching practice for ongoing growth in student learning.
  • Quality Assured: To ensure alignment with the standard of quality expected of professional learning within the Department.

What does this mean for all other PL?

The Priority PL selector provides a curated list of high quality and effective courses, however you may find that there is additional PL offered by the Department that is effective and relevant to the specific circumstances within your school or classroom. You can continue to enrol in PL that is not on the Priority PL selector, however you are encouraged to use the selector as your primary tool for identifying professional learning prioritised by the Department.
