Eligibility criteria

To apply, permanent teachers and school leaders will need to:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- be permanently appointed to a NSW public school with a minimum of 12 months (203 days) successful teaching experience
- not already be approved to teach in the area of inclusive/special education or hold a department recognised qualification in inclusive/special education (i.e. if a permanent teacher or school leader is flagged to teach inclusive/special education and does not hold a recognised qualification in inclusive/special education they are eligible to apply. A permanent teacher or school leader is also eligible if they are already approved to teach in the area of inclusive/special education and intend on enrolling in and completing a specialisation in the area of deaf and hard of hearing or blind and low vision)
- be supported by a recommendation from their current school principal and one other referee
- be enrolled in or committed to enrolling in and completing: a recognised master's degree in inclusive/special education, a recognised graduate diploma in inclusive/special education, or a master's degree with a specialisation in the area of deaf and hard of hearing or blind and low vision
- maintain continued university enrolment and complete their recognised qualification within 2 years
- be willing to remain in their current permanent full-time teaching position or accept an appointment as a permanent full-time inclusive/special education teacher in any primary or secondary NSW public school or School for Specific Purposes (as nominated in their application) on completion of their studies for a minimum period of 3 years.
To apply, temporary and casual teachers and school leaders will need to:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- be an approved teacher for permanent employment with the NSW Department of Education and have a minimum of 12 months (203 days) successful teaching experience within the last 5 years
- not already be approved to teach in the area of inclusive/special education or hold a department recognised qualification in inclusive/special education (i.e. if a temporary or casual teacher or school leader is flagged to teach inclusive/special education and they do not hold a recognised qualification in inclusive/special education they are eligible to apply. A temporary or casual teacher or school leader is also eligible to apply if they are already approved to teach in the area of inclusive/special education and intend on enrolling in and completing a specialisation in the area of deaf and hard of hearing or blind and low vision)
- be supported by a recommendation from their current school principal and one other referee
- be enrolled in or committed to enrolling in and completing: a recognised master's degree in inclusive/special education, a recognised graduate diploma in inclusive/special education, or a master's degree with a specialisation in the area of deaf and hard of hearing or blind and low vision
- maintain continued university enrolment and complete their recognised qualification within 2 years
- be willing to enter into a Scholarship Agreement, a legally binding agreement that outlines the responsibilities of both the scholarship recipient and the department
- be willing to accept an appointment as a permanent full-time inclusive/special education teacher to any primary or secondary NSW public school or School for Specific Purposes (as nominated in their application) on completion of their studies for a minimum period of 3 years.
