Two neighbouring Western Sydney high schools are set to undergo their first major upgrades in decades as the Minns Labor Government invests in improvements at Birrong Girls and Birrong Boys High Schools.

At Birrong Girls High School, students and staff will benefit as the school undergoes its first major renovation in 20 years.

The improvements include a new multipurpose hall, a new covered outdoor learning area, additional classrooms, a new Visual Arts learning unit, refurbished materials learning unit, new administration and staff areas, and improvements to landscaped outdoor areas.

Birrong Boys High School will also receive its first major upgrade in more than two decades, with improvements to its multipurpose hall and covered outdoor learning area, new classrooms, specialised science learning spaces, a new Food Technology unit, a new 3D printing and laser cutting space, new administration and staff areas, a refurbishment of the student support unit and improvements to its landscaped outdoor areas.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Early Learning and Western Sydney Prue Car was joined by former Birrong Girls High School student and Member for Auburn Lynda Voltz to celebrate the commencement of works on Wednesday.

Investing in upgrading the state’s public schools is a key part of the Minns Labor Government’s longterm plan to rebuild public education in NSW, after 12 years of neglect by the Liberals and Nationals.

At the NSW Budget, the Minns Labor Government invested a record $3.5 billion investment to build 24 new schools, and upgrade 51 primary and high schools in Western Sydney.

The Minns Labor Government also made a historic $1.4 billion investment to deliver a pipeline of new and upgraded schools in regional NSW.

Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:

“I am delighted that after waiting for decades, the Minns Labor Government will be delivering a much-needed major upgrade to both Birrong Girls and Birrong Boys High Schools.

“These upgrades will mean the schools will receive first-class facilities for students.

“Our Government is committed to investing in public education so all students in NSW can achieve success and thrive in high-quality public schools.”

Member for Auburn Lynda Voltz said:

“These two schools obviously hold very special memories for me, so I am extremely proud to be a part of the Government delivering them a much needed upgrade.

“The school’s vibrant, multicultural, multi-faith school communities have much to be proud of, and new facilities will help foster a real sense of school pride.

“I I know these new facilities at both schools will help give more students the chance to learn and discover and grow.”
