Lindfield Learning Village’s Winterfest event enabled students to publicly celebrate mastery and teach, immerse, engage and honour one another within their community.

Described as the school’s Term 2 ‘Mountaintop’ event and held on 3 July, Winterfest saw over 1500 people attend a vast array of exhibits, works in progress, performances, immersive spaces, interactive stands, entrepreneurial markets, podcasts and a student run café.

Relieving Principal David Osland said the enthusiasm and engagement from the youngest learners, all the way up to the Year 12s, was contagious.

“Our families responded by immersing themselves in experiments, collaborating on community artworks, being interviewed for podcasts, bargaining at market stalls and admiring meticulously designed bikinis," Mr Osland said.

"They were also inspired by the many performers who sang, danced and played on the stages of our Lyric and Globe Theatres.

“Our food tech students were run off their feet in the Roasted Café preparing and serving a wide array of coffees, chai, turmeric lattes, milkshakes and smoothies – as well as a deliciously warming tomato soup and toasties.”

Community participation included food trucks and a book fair organised by independent bookseller, Burns Bay Bookery, while the P&C, ‘Friends of the Village’, provided coveted prizes for the 2024 raffle.

The evening culminated in the foyer with a poignant performance led by the community Vocal Ensemble, led by singer/songwriter Kim Sheehy.

“Kim rehearses with this group every week, and it is a very special thing to witness children as young as five sing together with high school students, parents, teachers and even grandparents,” Mr Osland said

“It was a fitting and deeply moving way to end another amazing Winterfest.”
