The students, staff and community members of The Junction Public School have dug deep to support children and adults in need during the school’s annual charity day, which raised $6,225.

Principal Cath Larkman said the sum raised was testimony to the generosity of the local community and willingness of the students and staff to recognise a good cause and join in.

“Our parents and carers donated many excellent items for our stalls, and let their children bring money to spend throughout the day, knowing it would all be going to people who need support, particularly at the end of the year,” Ms Larkman said.

“The weather cleared up just in time for us to set up our class stalls, which included a toy stall, two book stalls, a haunted house, photo booth, games, a drinks stall and barbecue.

“We all had a great time, and I must thank teachers Mark Alcock and Nicole Jones in particular for the time they put in to organise such a fun and rewarding day.”

This year the monies raised will support the Soul Café, which provides food and services for people in need, the residential children’s charity Stewart House in Curl Curl in Sydney, and Jenny’s Place in Newcastle, which provides relief and support for women and children experiencing domestic violence or homelessness.
