NSW Department of Education Secretary, Murat Dizdar, joined thousands of public school students from across the state for the Show School Day, as the Royal Easter Show began in earnest at Sydney Olympic Park on Friday.
One of Australia’s most endearing public displays and largest ticketed events in the world, ‘The Show’ is now in its 203rd year.
NSW public schools’ long tradition with The Show continues in 2025 with dozens of schools from across the state getting hands-on with agriculture, artisan foods and amusements.
Highlights include:
Narooma High School students “sleeping out” at The Show for the week, staying right next door to their steers, heifers and stud animals ahead of competition.
More than 150 students from 17 schools operating the Rural Students Café, cooking and serving high tea and drinks to show-goers. Students are completing their Certificate II in Hospitality or Certificate II in Cookery, with the experience counting towards their work placement for these qualifications.
Narromine High School’s 35 students and five teachers who are the beneficiaries of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Youth Group’s All Roads to the Royal program four-day trip to The Show.
Brunswick Heads Public School Assistant Principal Madeleine Kirwan-Edwards competing in the wood-chopping world titles.
Lake Illawarra High School’s touching floral tribute to their late agriculture teacher Michelle Atkinson.

Mr Dizdar, who spent the day visiting competitions involving school students and the teachers and staff supporting them, said he was impressed to see the breadth of entries by public schools.
“It was wonderful to see our public school students and staff bringing agriculture to life and having a blast at The Show at the same time,” he said.
Visiting students to The Show don’t miss out either, gaining a wonderful snapshot of Australian agriculture activities, competitions and performances across its 12 days.
Student workbooks are available at The Show, tailored to different year levels and curriculum areas.
