It’s official - the Lismore High Tiny Home has sold at auction.

In doing so, it will provide much-needed additional living space for a local family of eight and secured the next stage of the Lismore High Tiny Home Project.

Lauren Flint and her husband Khan Quinlan made the winning bid of $65,000 to secure the dwelling.

"This is an instant convenience for us,” Ms Flint told local media.

“We've been looking at renovating, and all the different options, and definitely putting a granny flat out the back was an option for us.

“So, when this came up and the ability to support the school, we wanted to do it."

Not only are two of their children in Year 7 at The Rivers Secondary College, Lismore High campus, but the family also lives across the road.

A large crowd turned out at the school to watch the Tiny Home go under the hammer, with six bidders registering.

Watching the auctioneer work the crowd from the starting bid of $40k was nerve-wracking for Lismore High Campus student-builder Harrison Brown, who was pleased it was going to a local family.

“It was really nice to meet them,” the Year 10 student said.

“It’s pretty cool knowing that what we worked on last year is going to good hands, and they were really happy to buy it.”

Meanwhile Lismore High Campus principal Chris Williams is delighted that the school’s aim of making this a legacy project is now a reality.

“The Lismore High Tiny Home Project is here to stay, and we want to keep doing this every year,” Mr Williams said.

“We want to keep fostering strong partnerships and connections with our local tradespeople.”

The next Tiny Home Project will begin at Lismore High in Term 2 and already has 47 applications. The money raised at auction will be used by the school to pay for materials, staffing and other project costs.

The Regional Industry Education Partnerships program (RIEP) and Industry Workforce Construction, Trade Readiness program worked together to provide the seed funding for the Lismore High Tiny Home Project, which was a response to the needs of the Northern Rivers community – the shortage of sustainable housing and tradespeople following the 2022 floods, and the desire to engage students with hands-on learning experiences.
