The Rural and Remote Education Implementation Plan is our roadmap for delivering meaningful change on the ground for our regional, rural and remote learning communities in 2024.

2024 ICPA Conference

11 March 2024

The department works closely with the NSW Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association (ICPA) to improve outcomes for students living in remote areas of the state.

We were pleased to attend this year's annual conference in Dubbo to hear from branch members from across the state. Speakers included the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, the Hon. Prue Car, as well as Ben Ballard Executive Director of Regional, Rural and Remote Education Policy (pictured).

Strengthening professional connections

27 February 2024

One of the key initiatives in our recently released Rural and Remote Education Implementation Plan focusses on strengthening professional connections among our regional, rural and remote staff.

Under the initiative we are delivering a series of 8 connection days across regional NSW for both principals and early career teachers working in regional, rural and remote schools. The events are modelled on the award-winning Principal Connection Day series rolled out in 2023.

For more information about the events including, dates, locations and how to register, email us at rrrep@det.nsw.edu.au.

Funding guarantee for vocational studies program

14 March 2024

Funding for the Educational Pathways Program (EPP) will be continued for another two years and expanded to an additional 20 regional, rural and remote schools across the state.

The program is one of the ways the department is delivering on the Rural and Remote Education Strategy by raising student engagement at schools through increased access to vocational education opportunities.

New Country University Centre in Mudgee

27 March 2024

Aspiring tertiary students in the central west will benefit from the newly opened Country Universities Centre (CUC) in Mudgee.

The CUC program aims to address the under-representation of regional students in higher education by providing facilities and academic support for students where they live. It is one of the ways the department is delivering on the Rural and Remote Education Strategy.

2024 Implementation Plan released

16 February 2024

We are pleased to release the Rural and Remote Education Implementation Plan, which outlines how we will be delivering on the Rural and Remote Education Strategy in 2024.

The plan was developed in consultation with our education partners and identifies priorities for our learning communities for the year ahead.

It includes 3 key initiatives that will be the focus of delivery in 2024. It also lists a number of existing initiatives currently delivering against the Strategy that we will be tracking to ensure they are delivering meaningful support on the ground.
